Since 1 December 2009, the European Union has had its own legally binding Bill of Rights, known as the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. This Charter covers a wide range of rights, including civil, political, social, and economic rights. It also includes rights unique to EU citizens, like the freedom of movement within the EU, the right to privacy, and the right to data protection. The EU Charter, with its comprehensive set of rights and freedoms, serves as a crucial legal tool for protecting individuals' rights in the digital sphere.

The DigiRISE project is dedicated to enhancing awareness of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights' potential in defending and safeguarding digital rights. Its objectives include conducting capacity-building initiatives and strengthening the knowledge and capabilities of various stakeholders in effectively enforcing digital rights through strategic litigation.

Funded by the CERV programme, DigiRISE strives to bridge the gap between the legal framework provided by the EU Charter and its practical implementation in the realm of digital rights. Through targeted initiatives, they aim to empower individuals and organisations with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate and leverage the Charter for the protection of digital rights.
