Welcome to the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme, an initiative by the European Union aimed at fostering international learning mobility across the African continent.
This programme extends scholarship opportunities to African students and trainees pursuing Master and Doctoral degrees, as well as to university staff members.

Who can apply?
Students who reside in Africa and are nationals of an African country, can apply for:
- Master or Doctoral Level Mobility
To qualify, you must be registered or admitted to a Higher Education Institution established in Africa or have obtained a university degree from such an institution.
This mobility option can be either short-term or for the entire duration of an academic programme.
- Traineeship Mobility
To qualify, you must be enrolled in a Bachelor/Master/PhD programme at one of the African Higher Education Institutions participating in the Intra-Africa consortia selected as of 2023.
Trainees will engage in placement periods with private or public organizations in a country different from their nationality and residence.
The projects selected in 2019 and 2020 may also offer traineeship opportunities, as part of mobility period for Master or Doctoral studies.
Staff mobility is available for Academic, Administrative, and Technical Staff members working in Higher Education Institutions participating in the Intra-Africa consortia.
Activities may include teaching assignments, research, administrative tasks, attendance in/delivery of training courses, curriculum development, technical support, and more.
How do you apply?
To apply for a scholarship through the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme, you should follow these steps:
- Check the list of selected Intra-Africa consortia/projects.
- Visit the website of the consortium/project you are interested in to explore available academic programmes in different disciplines, review the entry requirements, the scholarship conditions, and the entire scholarship application process.
- Apply directly to the consortium/project by following the instructions on their website.
If you are affiliated with one of the Higher Education Institutions participating in the selected Intra-Africa consortia, you can also contact your International Relations Office for assistance.
Scholarships Available
The type of mobility and its duration determine the scholarship amount.
The scholarship will:
- Provide you a living allowance and an insurance
- Contribute to your travel and visa expenses
- Cover your participation costs (e.g. tuition and registration fees)
- Contribute to your research expenses depending on the available budget
- Scholarship holders with disabilities can receive additional support.
If you are applying to a project selected in 2019 and 2020, the scholarship conditions may vary.

Each consortium provides mobility opportunities across various disciplines, with a primary focus on areas related to agriculture, engineering, information and communication technologies, environment and climate change.
