World Children’s Day 2024

On 20 November, we celebrate World Children’s Day. Learn more about two projects under the CERV programme dedicated to promoting and protecting children’s rights

Observed annually on 20 November, World Children’s Day marks the anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The UNCRC outlines the fundamental rights of every child defined as any human being under the age of eighteen. The 2024 theme, “Listen to the Future”, aims to empower children to voice their opinions about the world they want to live in. 

The Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values programme (CERV) has been greatly inspired by this landmark document as a foundational blueprint for taking concrete actions to advocate for children’s rights. The CERV programme contributes to these efforts to actively listen and support their visions. Since 2021, the programme has published a comprehensive call for proposals on the Rights of the Child and Children's Participation aimed at supporting projects promoting and protecting children’s rights. Additionally, the call focuses on the implementation of actions and recommendations at EU, national and local levels established in the EU Strategy on the rights of the child. The call also encourages children’s engagement in political and democratic life.
