The feature animation “Flow” by Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis is a Belgo-French-Latvian co-production supported under the Creative Europe MEDIA sub-programme via the Films on the Move call for proposals. With its wide release across 25 MEDIA countries, the project showcases European cultural diversity and artistic innovation, exemplifying MEDIA programme's impact in supporting cross-border circulation of European works, audience development, and international recognition of European talents. The film was created entirely using open-source 3D software Blender, which is freely available to anyone.

Ten years ago, the MEDIA programme contributed to the development of the company behind Blender. Today, “Flow” stands as a testament to the platform’s success and highlights the digital innovation within the European animation sector. The silent, dialogue-free narrative makes the film universally accessible and enhances global reach. The film had a significant critical and commercial success, achieving a worldwide box office of over €50 million, and receiving major international awards, including Best Animated Feature at the Golden Globes and Oscars 2025.
