Over the past three years, a joint project led by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), Eurostat, and the European Commission, in collaboration with national experts and representatives from EU Member States, has paved the way for more meaningful sport statistics.
The key achievement of this collaboration is a new method for collecting sport statistics data. This approach harmonises data gathering and interpretation, allowing more accurate comparisons and informed decision-making in the European Union. Standardised methods provide a clearer picture of sport impact and contribute to evidence-based policies.
The reports also reveal new insights into the socio-economic value of sport. Not only do they emphasise the significant economic contributions sport makes to local and national economies but also highlight the vital role of sport in enhancing social wellbeing. This undoubtedly helps national policy makers to leverage the power of sport to foster prosperity and unity.
