New publication: The situation of young people in the European Union

'The situation of young people in the European Union', a companion to the newly released EU Youth Report 2024, offers a concise yet comprehensive overview of the main challenges and trends shaping the lives of young people across the EU.

Covering a wide range of topics, including employment, social inclusion, political engagement, mobility, digitalisation, and environmental activism, the study highlights the key trends and challenges influencing the lives of young people across the EU today.

Key findings include:

  • Youth participation in society, particularly through volunteering and civic activities, along with their perceptions of the European Union.
  • Trends in employment and education, highlighting youth unemployment rates and the obstacles encountered by young people who are not in employment, education or training (NEET).
  • The effects of green and digital transitions on the skills and prospects of young people.
  • Mental health and well-being, focusing on the pressures faced by young individuals in the contemporary world.

Based on data from Eurostat, Eurobarometer surveys, and the Youth Wiki, the report focuses primarily on young people aged 15 to 29, with slight variations depending on data availability.

This publication is a valuable resource for policymakers, researchers, and youth organisations, supporting evidence-based decisions to improve the lives of young people across Europe.
