New publication! Country sheets: Teachers' and school heads' salaries and allowances, 2021/2022

The European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) has published the Eurydice country sheets on teachers' and school heads' salaries and allowances for 2021/2022.

New publication! Country sheets: Teachers' and school heads' salaries and allowances, 2021/2022

Teachers’ remuneration and career prospects are an intrinsic part of policies aimed at attracting the best candidates and ensuring they remain in the profession.

Are teachers in Europe well paid? What prospects for salary increases do they have as they progress in their career? The Eurydice country sheets answer these questions, covering pre-primary to general upper secondary education levels. They show the composition and differences in teachers’ earnings for the Eurydice network countries, and provide detailed information on the allowances and other additional payments that teachers and school heads receive.

The data was collected jointly by the Eurydice and OECD/NESLI networks.

The publication of these country sheets precedes the publication of the report Teachers' and school heads' salaries and allowances, 2021/2022 which will be released in October 2023. This comparative publication will examine the statutory salaries for new teachers, and how these have evolved since 2014/2015, as well as the prospects for salary increases throughout their careers. Requirements for becoming a school head, salaries and career progression are examined as well.

A brand new interactive web publication will also be released in the autumn, offering a visualisation of the data collected on teachers’ and school heads’ salaries in an interactive display. This tool will enable cross-searches by topic or by country and data export in different formats.
