The International Human Rights Day, celebrated each year on 10 December, reminds us of a milestone moment: the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.The theme for 2025 — “Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials” — highlights a simple but powerful truth: our civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights are part of daily life. They belong to everyone, everywhere. Yet today, many communities face shrinking civic space and serious violations that show how urgently these rights must be protected. That is why the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme plays such an important role. Created to uphold the rights and values at the heart of the EU Treaties and the Charter of Fundamental Rights, CERV strengthens the foundations of open, equal and inclusive societies across Europe.Since its launch in 2021, CERV has become the EU’s largest programme dedicated to promoting and protecting fundamental rights, supported by a €1.55 billion budget over seven years. Through its many calls for proposals, the programme works with a wide range of partners — public authorities, civil-society organisations, community groups, and other actors across the EU and associated countries.Whether you are working on equality, inclusion, civic participation, or fundamental rights, CERV offers opportunities to support your work and expand your impact. Do you want to get involved?Explore current calls, resources, and funding opportunities on the official CERV campaign website and discover how your organisation can help shape fairer, more resilient and more inclusive societies.
